A couple more undersung drummers.

Chris Franz of Talking Heads and David Robinson of The Cars.

They can't do songo, but I can still hear distinctive drum parts in my mind. Once in a Lifetime with it's tom hit and Robinson's groove is real deep and sits real well.

These two guys shaped a lot of music int he 80's. I have an mpeg of The Cars playing Candy-O. His drumming is real solid. I always liked the way he used his crashes, straightforward and with purpose. Some of those older Cars tunes are deceptively difficult to play with the same feel.

basically all of the drummers of P-Funk are vastly underrated IMO (only one that is an exception to that rule is DC). Tiki Fulwood, Jerome Brailey, Frankie "Kash" Waddy, and all of the other guys who played in that group over its many years. Great groove and pocket.

I learned to play the drums by learning all of the Cars records my older brother had. Definitely a solid drummer.
